Since 2021, the Malian government has been collaborating with MUSO, UNICEF, Medic, and Keneya Neita to build and scale the DISC-Mali as a national electronic community health information system. The app currently supports 5.423 users, covering a number of program areas including: RMNCH, infectious diseases, immunization, stock monitoring, and supervision. The team continues to scale the system, with the goal of reaching 25,000 users nationwide.
To help strengthen surveillance efforts and to enable CHWs to detect and report unusual health events quickly; the teams have designed and developed event-based workflows that have been integrated into the DISC Mali app. The workflows are designed to support users in coordinating outbreak response efforts at local and national levels.
The event based system enables different system users to perform the following functions:
-
CHWs use the Alert notification form to report extraordinary events endangering the life of an individual and the community. An alert notification report triggers an alert sorting task for a supervisor. A sorting task is also triggered for the facility Nurse to carry out the verification in case the event has not been verified by a Supervisor in 24 hours.
-
The Supervisor will use the alert sorting form to verify the event which will in turn trigger an alert verification task for a Nurse managing the District/health area.
-
The Nurse will complete the verification task, conduct the required tests and investigations and fill the test result as soon as the results are available. Both CHWs and Supervisors will receive a notification which will have the details of the test results.
