January 2026 Round-up highlights and recording

A big thank you to everyone who joined our January Round-up call.

If you couldn’t make it, don’ t worry - you can still catch the highlights by watching the call recording.

Below is a summary of our discussion.

Agenda 1: CHT Android task reminders.

Recently, users and partners using CHT in Nepal, Uganda and India have shared feedback highlighting the need for in-app task notifications. These reminders would support users to timely complete time sensitive tasks and help reduce implementation costs particularly for projects that rely on SMS notifications.

To help improve the users experience, Medic has built the Android task alerts functionality. This feature is designed to work offline, displays task notifications once a day for due and overdue tasks. The number of notifications that a user can receive at go is customizable.

This feature will be available in the next CHT release and partners will need to update CHT core, conf and Android in order to use the functionality. Special appreciation to @jonathan, @diana, @jkuester and the Community for supporting in building this feature.

Agenda 2: CHT Hosting Cost Interactive calculator

Over the years, we have had discussions about how we can estimate the hosting costs for CHT to guide partners who would like to deploy and scale CHT. A commonly referenced high level estimate of 0.10 USD/per user/month has been used as a general guideline. The goal of developing an interactive hosting calculator is to provide an accurate and easy way for partners to estimate costs that are tailored to specific implementations.

The first draft of the cost estimation calculator is available. The tool allows one to input generic parameters such as population to be served, number of workflows and number of users and it generates:

  • the total cost estimate per year,

  • cost per user/month

  • The required hosting resources and costs

The tool can break down the required hosting costs showing the disk space cost versus CPU/RAM costs. You can learn more about this work via the linked forum post, we welcome your feedback on how the calculator can be improved.

Agenda 3: CHT plugins squad updates

There is an existing working community group that is pursuing the idea of plugins within the CHT. The C-SHARP team has provided a special impetus behind this work by submitting a PR for custom frontend functionalities. The Squad has been working on the design proposal and is currently learning towards adopting a broad plugin strategy that will be based on web components. The weekly meetings for this group usually happen every Thursday at 2-3 pm GMT, please join this group (meeting link) if you would like to be part of this initiative.

Agenda 4: Community survey

There is still time to take our Community Survey (English and French), your input would help guide us as we continue to work together to build a strong and thriving community.

Special shout out to all our Presenters - @jonathan , Arjun (Ola Foundation), @Pawan_KB, @jkuester and @antony for their insightful contributions.

Mark your :date: ! The next Round-up will be on February 12, 2026 at 1:00 - 2:00 pm GMT. We hope to see you there. :folded_hands:
