DHIS2 reporting is one of the most common uses of interoperability for the CHT. There have been multiple approaches to achieve this in the past and more recently there has been interest in using OpenFn. This would involve developing an OpenFn Adaptor for the CHT which makes it easy for projects to connect CHT data to a wide range of other products in your ecosystem, including DHIS2.
Because many community members are actively working on DHIS2 reporting from the CHT we are proposing the formation of a community squad to collaborate on a solution.
What is a community squad?
The CHT is a strong and growing community all solving similar problems in their own way. This growing community presents a great opportunity to increase innovation and efficiency by forming squads of community members to collaborate on development of specific initiatives. Members could collaborate by helping design the solution, writing the code, testing, or by funding some of the development. These will be designed as short term agile teams to get the feature developed and released as quickly as possible. All work is done in the open and under open sources licenses, of course!
How to get involved?
If you or your organization would be willing to contribute either funding or time for design, development, or testing then please register your interest by commenting on this post. We’re planning for development to kick off in mid-November so let us know by Friday the 25th of October.
Please note that a barebones CHT adaptor already exists on OpenFn. It’s what we call a “http” wrapper - which means it provides an easy interface to call the CHT api directly via GET/PUT/POST requests.
This is a common starting point for OpenFn adaptors because it enables you to do anything the API supports, meaning that today you can integrate CHT to DHIS2 using OpenFn. However, the current adaptor doesn’t have the most user friendly experience, so our team is looking forward to collaborating with the CHT community to extend this adaptor to make it even easier to integrate CHT with other applications, including DHIS2!
Thank you all for your interest to contribute to this work. Our kickoff call will be held on Wednesday Nov 6, 2024. Please let us know your preferred time for the kickoff call, I have shared the proposed time slots on slack. Thanks.
Hi @cliff, the kick off call will be happening tomorrow (Nov 6) at 1pm GMT. We can add you to the invite if you are interested to join the squad and contribute. Thanks.
