Android device specifications to run CHT

According to the CHT docs, the minimum and recommended specifications for the client Android devices to run the CHT app are as given below:

Specification Minimum Recommended
Android version 5.0 9.0+
Processor 1.0GHz dual-core 2.0GHz quad-core
RAM 1GB 2GB
Storage 8GB 16GB

Are these recommendations up to date and based on real-world experiences?

Considering how much resources CHT app might have to share with the Android OS and other commonly used apps, I find the recommended specifications to be on the lower side.

Although we might want to keep the minimum requirements low to support as many devices as possible, shall we increase the recommended specs? It’s not good to recommend devices that perform poorly and that cannot be upgraded.

Thanks for starting the discussion @binod !

On the forms with large attachments squad, research was just completed about which phones could handle large attachments. While the testing was entirely synthetic, it very much pointed to more RAM makes a happier device.

I’m very much watching this thread to see what other deployments have to share!
