Seeking to Understand and Observe CHT Use in Uganda

Hello CHT Community,

As someone contributing from Uganda, I’m really eager to understand how CHT is actually being used in the field here, especially as part of the national eCHIS rollout. I believe that seeing the system in action will help in making more relevant and impactful contributions.

I’m interested in (among others):

  1. How Community Health Workers (CHWs) interact with the CHT app
  2. How content and language are localized and understood by users
  3. How workflows (like visits, referrals, and form submissions) function in practice

Is it possible to:

  • Connect with any Medic team members or implementing partners based in Uganda
  • Observe a training, supervision session, or field deployment

I would like also understand what kind of permissions or clearances I’d need to do this appropriately

Any connections to relevant teams or guidance on the possibility and how I might take the next steps would be deeply appreciated.

Thank you in advance :slightly_smiling_face:

This is great, thanks @brian and the Guild team for offering to support @Najuna_Brian

Hey @Najuna_Brian - glad to connect with you. For sure the eCHIS roll out is the best, and right now largest usecase of CHT in Uganda. As you know, its led by MOH and supported by Medic and other partners. A great place to start is to join the Thursdya Weekly CHIS Implementers Forum - concise 1hr calls that get you to follow the eCHIS focused agenda, weekly!

At Guild, we are more than happy to share with you our experience, and how we have used CHT in refugee settlements - this work is winding (in a good way) up as we are completing national integration with the MOH led eCHIS. But the story and experience we have spans the last 3.5 years, so we are more than happy to share. Connect with @Edwin and @Charlotte_A - they are ready to answer your questions.

Cheers -

My Visit to Guild Digital Foundation – Learning from CHT in Practice - Uganda

Hello CHT Community,

I’m excited to share a brief report following my visit today 2025-04-29T06:30:00Z2025-04-29T12:45:00Z to Guild Digital Foundation here in Uganda. This visit enlightened me more about how the Community Health Toolkit (CHT) is being used locally, especially within the national Uganda eCHIS implementation.

A heartfelt thank you to @bssennoga, @Charlotte_A , and @Edwin and the entire Guild_Team for the warm welcome and willingness to share so generously.

Here’s what I experienced:

  • @Charlotte_A walked me through how CHT has been used in refugee settlements, and shared powerful insights through interactive dashboards that showed the system’s impact in Ugandan Healthcare system.

  • @Edwin gave me an in-depth walkthrough of the CHT workflow, including its technical architecture, codebase, and the analytics, explaining how CHT has been adapted within Uganda’s national eCHIS setup.

They also kindly shared a link to join the Weekly Community Health Information System (CHIS) Implementation Forum – a great opportunity for anyone looking to stay updated on Uganda’s eCHIS journey:

The visit gave me a clearer vision of the great impact of CHT in our communities. It’s truly inspiring to see technology making a difference at the lowest Healthcare level of the CHWs

Together with Charlotte_A & Edwin at Guild Offices :innocent:

Great thanks to the CHT Community for the support !

Hi @Najuna_Brian,

Thank you for your interest in learning more about the eCHIS in Uganda. It’s currently being rolled out and is being used by CHWs in 20 districts to date.

The eCHIS supports multiple cadres of community health workers, including Village Health Teams (VHTs) and Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs). It’s available in English and Luganda to ensure accessibility for users in different regions.

The system includes various workflows developed in alignment with Ministry of Health (MoH) protocols to support standardised service delivery. Additionally, eCHIS is integrated with several national health information systems, including DHIS2, WASH MIS, LabXpert, and the eCBSS.

I’d be happy to connect and provide more insights or answer any questions you may have.
