Hi all — new here, looking for early-stage advice.
My background isn’t in global or community health (I work in medical device regulatory affairs), but I recently connected with an informal settlement community in Medellín, Colombia through a local foundation, and I want to help while learning as I go.
The community and foundation are pushing for formal government health coverage and a funded local health worker — a slow process. In the meantime, they want to explore what digital health tools and non governmental support could realistically do to support them now. The goal is to increase health education and access to care using the community’s own initiative: local IT students learning to build tools needed, and a local community member trained as a health worker, rather than bringing in an outside team.
We have gathered and organised a reasonable amount of information about the community and its needs. Happy to share.
I’d value some direction: for first-time working with a community that isn’t yet formally recognised, what’s a sensible way to start with the CHT? Any pointers or people worth talking to first would be much appreciated.
