Below is a summary of the key updates and presentations shared during the session.
Agenda 1: Advancing geolocation in CHT.
Geolocation is becoming an increasingly valuable capability in CHT. It has been used to strengthen supervision, improve program monitoring and increase confidence in field data. As of today, CHT automatically captures GPS coordinates when reports are submitted, provided users grant location permissions to the Android app.
In Nepal, Community Health Officers and Supervisors are already leveraging geolocation to support routine supervision and monitor program implementation. Overtime, the community has identified opportunities for GPS experience, this includes GPS not being captured within contact forms, no clear indication of whether a location was successfully recorded and lack of capability to retry capturing GPS coordinates when acquisition fails.
For the past few months, the CHT Task Prioritization Community Working Group has been working on addressing these gaps. During the July Round-up, we were privileged to see the upcoming GPS enhancements in actions: from capturing GPS for a new household, adding geolocation to existing households, viewing capture status and retrying acquisition in low-signal environments . The improvements promise a more transparent and reliable experience for CHT users.
During the discussion, @danielmwakanema highlighted the GPS findings from the CHW NEO project. An analysis showed that more than 80% of reports submitted by CHPs were submitted at the households, providing encouraging evidence of data quality and field fidelity. @AdrianO also shared how the Lwala team is exploring new ways to use geolocation data to support public health campaigns.
As these enhancements come together, geolocation is evolving from a background feature into a strategic capability; improving data quality, increasing transparency and enabling smarter decisions across community health programs.

Agenda 2: CHT v5.2.0 release.
This version was released on June 26, 2026. It has the following new features:
- The UI extension functionality that will allow App Developers to build custom pages and tabs within the CHT making it easier to tailor deployments to specific program needs.
- Telemetry to track task selection has been added to provide valuable insights into task management.
- A search field is now available in the task UI to help filter tasks. A user can select tasks by type of task, location and name of the contact.
- There are a lot of syncing enhancements, including Couch has been upgraded to CouchDB 3.5.2 which improves the indexing speed for Nouveau indexes by 60%. New API endpoints have been added to help Admins identify users that have replication failures.
The release has lots of other improvements such as collapsible contact summary, the log in page has been made responsive to LTR<>RTL switching to help improve user experience and the CHT datasource APIs for creating and updating contacts have been added, these six new endpoints that have been introduced are backward compatible and they will ensure that the integration of CHT with other systems is stable and data is consistent.
