Every child deserves a chance at a healthy life and reaching zero-dose children requires more than vaccines. It needs the community, data and the right technology working together.
In Northern Nigeria, the Datharm team has done exactly that! ![]()
Working alongside stakeholders in three states (Katsina, Kano and Jigawa), Datharm has transformed a manual, error-prone routine immunization service delivery process into a digitally powered community engagement model using the MCHTrack app. Female Community Mobilizers use the app that the team has built to enumerate pregnant women, under-immunized and zero-dose children in their communities and refer them to health facilities. At the facility, immunization referrals are automatically reconciled with health service delivery data to identify demand gaps in real time. If a referral is not completed within 14 days, the system automatically tags a missed case as a defaulter and sends a task notification to the Mobilizer prompting a follow-up and re-referral to care.
Local Government and State officials have access to performance dashboards and geospatial maps that display zero-dose, under-immunized cases and the reasons behind defaulting, putting actionable intelligence directly in the hands of decision-makers. So far, this intervention has been scaled to 572 settlements ensuring broader reach and impact. Over 34,000 children have been line listed and referred back to routine immunization care.
As the team looks ahead, they are planning to upgrade to CHT v5.x to improve system performance for facility users and leverage upcoming UI extensibility features to build richer interfaces including charts and tables.
Thank you Amina and @femi_oni for the wonderful and insightful presentation and demo, the recording is available here. This is what it looks like when technology meets the community to increase immunization coverage. Happy World Immunization Week! ![]()
