Closing immunization gap in Nepal using the electronic Community Health Information System

Nepal’s grassroot healthcare system relies on paper based processes, making it difficult for health care workers to calculate the required dosages and track children who miss scheduled immunizations. In recent years, Nepal has experienced a decline in full immunization coverage, with some provinces recording an increase in the number of unvaccinated children.

To address these challenges, Nepal Ministry of Health and Population has partnered with Lumbini Regional Health Directorate, UNICEF and Medic to customize eCHIS app to support caregivers and healthcare workers in improving immunization coverage in Lumbini province

At the health facility, health workers use eCHIS mobile app to register children within their catchment area. The app automatically generates tasks 7 days before children become eligible for immunization, enabling facility health care workers to plan for immunization days more effectively by estimating the number of vaccine doses. SMS workflows have been incorporated into the workflow to support Female Community Health Volunteers to follow up children who miss immunization appointments. Caregivers also receive reminder messages for vaccination appointments.

Thank you @kunwarl and @nitin for the great demo and for sharing valuable insights from Lumbini deployment, you can watch the community story presentation highlights here.
