Dear CHT Community,
We are excited to share the results from the Q2 2025 CHT Community Survey. Thank you to everyone who participated and shared their thoughts. Your feedback is invaluable as we continue to build our community-first approach.
Survey participation
We received 20 total responses.
Members identified across various roles including implementers, developers, academic researchers, partners, and more.
Quantitative highlights
Our community is showing strong engagement and alignment with the community-first vision:
- 85% clearly understand the community-first vision (rating ≥4 out of 5)
- 95% are excited about the community-first direction (rating ≥4 out of 5)
- 85% are likely to actively participate in community initiatives next quarter (rating ≥4 out of 5)
- 75% feel their voice is heard within the community (rating ≥4 out of 5)
What’s clear and exciting, in your words:
“The focus on empowering communities to drive solutions that directly address their needs is very clear. It’s about putting the voices and priorities of the community at the center of every decision.”
“It’s clear the community leads the initiatives in the current vision where efforts are primarily led by community members. I am excited to see the community grow in this pivot.”
“The emphasis on collaboration, transparency, and shared ownership is very clear. I’m particularly excited about the active role implementers and developers are encouraged to play in shaping the roadmap. The openness to contributions and discussions creates a strong sense of community and purpose.”
“For me, it’s bringing together different implementers of the CHT from different countries to work on a solution that benefits everyone based on the feedback received. Not only is the feedback received, there’s progress made to make sure that the CHT serves the people.”
Areas needing more clarity, in your words:
“How are community members actively involved in shaping priorities or roadmaps?”
“I’d appreciate more clarity on how decisions from community governance discussions are prioritised and implemented and how feedback loops are closed with contributors.”
“Tech mentorship and advice from the Medic team would be amazing going forward.”
“How decisions are made within the community, and how contributions are prioritized.”
“How to enhance collaboration within the community. For example, how can a technical partner access an implementing partner who has an active deployment for data access that informs a feature in the cht core? ”
Community initiatives
There was strong participation in community calls, squads, and forum discussions. Many of you were also involved in governance discussions, documentation efforts, and code contributions.
What you would like to see:
- mentorship, buddy programs, CHT Product Roadmap big picture discussion, hackathons, end users shaping features, experiments on CHT features, joint advocacy.
Additional support needed:
“Physical meetups”
“Informing the community or receiving an email in case of a community needed contribution”
Community open feedback
“The community has been very welcoming and inclusive. I’d love to see more structured paths for contributors to grow their involvement (e.g., from contributor → reviewer → maintainer). Otherwise, keep up the great work with transparency and community empowerment.”
“The most rewarding moment for me is when the community ships a feature in a new CHT release and then they immediately deploy it - solving a real world problem they had”
“The community-squad model has context and incentive because of exposure to real-world projects.”
“Avoid any sense of gatekeeping. Encouraging open discussions and clearer paths for contributors to get involved—regardless of background or affiliation—would go a long way.”
Next steps
Based on your feedback, we will continue working to address the areas needing clarity and developing new initiatives to support community growth. We will discuss next steps and action items in our next community calls.
Thank you again for your continuous participation and engagement with the CHT community!
