Dear CHT Community,

We are excited to share the results from the Q1 2025 CHT Community Survey. Thank you to everyone who participated and shared their thoughts. Your feedback is invaluable as we continue to build our community-first approach.

Survey participation

We received 19 total responses.

Members identified across various roles including implementers, developers, partners, and more.

What’s clear and exciting

The feedback highlighted several themes that resonate with the community:

  • Collaborative development with people the CHT serves
  • Decentralization that empowers community members from different organisations and backgrounds
  • Community agency in determining feature priorities and direction
  • Shared learning and capacity building among implementers
  • Real-world impact through an inclusive, supportive community.

In your words:

“CHT is built collaboratively with the people it serves, empowering local communities to own and adapt digital health tools. I’m most excited by its real-world impact and the inclusive, supportive community that makes contributing feel meaningful.”

“Community at large has agency in the direction of the CHT.”

“Increasing capacity for CHT builders so we can do more together”

“Feature development that is driven by the community.”

“(…) building solutions with the community rather than for them. I’m most excited by the way this approach empowers local voices and creates space for shared learning.”

“The most clear and exciting aspects is the decentralisation of the CHT.”

Areas needing more clarity

We also heard about areas where we can improve:

  • Governance structure and decision-making processes
  • Contribution pathways, especially for newcomers
  • Roles and responsibilities within the community
  • Training and onboarding resources.

In your words:

“I’d like more clarity on how decisions are made within the community and how newcomers can participate in those discussions.”

“Resources to support training, coaching, onboarding”

“CHT Governance and the role of Medic going forward”

“I would be interested in knowing definitive roles and who does what.”

Community initiatives

There was strong participation in community calls, squads, and forum discussions. Many of you were also involved in governance discussions, documentation efforts, and code contributions.

What you would like to see:

  • Mentorship programs
  • Cohort-based training
  • Templates and tutorials for implementers
  • More visibility and advocacy
  • Improved documentation
  • CHT Academy expansion
  • AI integration
  • Feedback loops with frontline health workers
  • More community contributions to docs and features.

Additional support needed:

“Maybe having more videos on the CHT Academy clarifying other important contribution areas”

“Networking with other colleagues to learn about their work and priorities. More stories from implementers using CHT”

Community open feedback

“The community is very welcoming! A clearer path for first-time contributors with guided steps and mentors would make getting started even easier.”

“Thanks for being humble, thanks for asking the community what they think is important, thanks knowing you might not get it right the first time.”

“I appreciate the community-first approach, opens doors for more people to contribute to the CHT.”

Next steps

Based on your feedback, we will be working to address the areas needing clarity and developing new initiatives to support community growth. We will share specific action items in our next community calls.

Thank you again for your participation and continued engagement with the CHT community! :yellow_heart:
